Farmhouse and stables. Red brick with some grey sandstone ashlar dressings;
2-span plain tile roof. Central 3-bay house with flanking set-back 2-bay
pavilions. 3-storey house and one-storey and attic pavilions. 2:1:3:1:2
bay rhythm. House: dentil brick eaves cornice, parapeted gable ends, and
pairs of external brick end stacks. 3 bays; segmental-headed 3-light
mid- to late C19 wooden casements, those on ground and first floors with
transoms; central door with 6 flush panels, 3-part rectangular overlight,
moulded architrave and flat hood with cut brackets and probably later
wrought iron brackets. Rear of 3 bays with ground floor lean-to and
central segmental-headed boarded door. Pavilions: each has dentil brick
eaves cornice to rear, parapeted gable ends, and returned stone coped
pedimented gable end to front. 2 bays: central oculus to attic with
glazing bars and stone architrave, ground floor depressed-arched blind
arcading with stone impost blocks; south pavilion has integral brick
end stack and one-storey link block to house with 3-light segmental-
headed casement and north pavilion has one-storey link block to house
with later lean-to addition to east; pavilions have 2-leaf stable
doors at rear and stone tallet steps at gable ends up to segmental-
headed boarded loft doors. Interior of house not inspected but likely
to contain late C18 fittings of interest. This is a surprisingly
ambitious formal composition for an otherwise conventional C18 farm-
house.
