13/108 Nos. 21 and 24

Probably one house, now divided. Mid-C17 with mid- to late C19 alterations
and additions. Timber framed with painted brick nogging on brick plinth;
red and painted brick partial rebuilding and probable partial refacing,
and rendered brick additions; plain tile roofs. L-plan; former hall
range of 4 framed bays aligned north-east/south-west with flush cross-
wing of 2 framed bays to south-west. One storey and attic and 2 storeys.
North-west front: brick ridge stack off-centre to right, and integral
brick end stacks to left and at rear of cross-wing. Framing: square
panels (3 and 4 from sole-plate to wall-plate) with short straight corner
and tension braces; gable end to north-west with decorative parallel
diagonal framing forming lozenge patterns, and exposed collar and cambered
tie-beam truss with queen struts. 4-window front; C19 and C20 one- and
2-light wooden and metal casements, C19 gabled semi-dormers in centre and
to left; C17 boarded door between second and third windows from left has
C19 gabled brick porch with dentil brick eaves cornice, round archway,
and segmental-headed side openings; 2 blocked C17 windows in left-hand
gable end; C20 six-panelled door to No.21 in north-east front of cross-
wing at rear. Interior: hall range (No.24): chamfered cross-beamed ceiling;
chamfered posts and wall-plates; C17 chamfered fireplace lintel; C17
boarded doors, some with chamfered 4-centred surrounds; painted decorative
C17 plaster wall-panel in ground-floor room to left; cross-wing (No.24):
chamfered curved tie-beam, windbraces and chamfered purlins; C19 cast
iron kitchen range.
