remains of cross)


Churchyard cross, remains of. C15. Dressed red sandstone. Octagonal
base consisting of 3 steps with socket for former shaft. The cross
base stands to the south-west of the ruins of the former church of
St. Mary (q.v.) which was abandoned and partly demolished in 1858.
A photograph in the Shropshire Libraries collection shows the cross
still with at least half of its shaft surviving. At the time of survey
(December 1986) the cross base was overgrown and largely obscured.
