House, now partly garages and partly disused. Probably mid-C17 with early
C19 addition and probably early C20 alterations. Cement-rendered timber
frame with wattle and daub and red brick infill, and red brick addition
on dressed red sandstone plinth; C20 asbestos slate roof, hipped to west.
Framing: square panels. Baffle-entry L-plan; 2 framed bays aligned approximately
east-west with later wing to south. 2 storeys. North front: brick stack
just below ridge off-centre to right and integral brick end stack to rear
wing. 2 windows; casements missing from first-floor windows, probably
early C20 ground-floor two-light wooden casement to left and 2 small blocked
windows to right. Roughly central boarded door. Interior: timber framed
dividing walls; ground-floor room to right with chamfered spine beam and
joists; fireplace with brick and dressed red sandstone arch. The eaves
of the rear wing have been raised, probably in the early C20 (see change
in brickwork). It is possible that the eaves of the C17 range have also
been raised as it appears that the whole house was re-roofed at the same
time (see also sawn rafters). Nos. 17 and 18 are not included on this list.
