Cottage. Late C17 with C18 and C19 alterations and additions. Timber
framed with red brick nogging, partly rebuilt in red brick and uncoursed
red, grey and yellow sandstone rubble with evidence of former limewashing;
corrugated-iron roof. 2-cell plan. Framing: light, rectangular panels.
One storey and attic. Timber framed gabled eaves dormer off-centre
to right with 2-light wooden casement; integral brick end stack to right
and mid- to late C19 stack in front of ridge off-centre to left consisting
of octagonal brick shaft. Small segmental-headed wooden casement off-
centre to left and 2-light wooden-framed metal casement off-centre to
right; boarded door off-centre to right. C19 one-storey lean-to brick
addition to right. Left-hand gable end: 2-light wooden-framed metal
attic casement and 2-light ground-floor casement (former doorway - see
brick patching beneath); exposed truss in gable with collar and struts.
Probably late C18 timber framed and sandstone and brick one-storey gabled wing
at rear. Interior not inspected. The cottage occupies a prominent
roadside position in the hamlet of Edgebolton.
