II

Milestone. Late C18 with early C19 alterations. Red sandstone with cast-iron plates. Triangular section on square base. Attached segmental-headed cast-iron plates with superscribed serif lettering: 'TO / CHESTER / 32 / MILES' (left-hand side) and 'TO / NEWPORT / 8 MILES' (right-hand side). Plate on base obscured. The cast plates are probably early C19 additions as earlier inscriptions are just visible in the stone behind them.
