Farmhouse. Early to mid-C19 remodelling of mid-C18 house; later additions
and alterations. Red brick on sandstone plinth with chamfered angle
quoins to front and regularly coursed and dressed sandstone blocks to
right return; hipped slate roof. L-plan with later range in angle to
rear on left. 2 storeys with floor band and stepped eaves cornice to
front and cill band and moulded eaves cornice to right return. 3-window
front; late C20 casements to first floor and contemporary window in
C19 pointed opening to left of entrance with similar blocked opening
to right. Central entrance; C20 gabled porch over C19 six-panel door
with pointed Gothic overlight. Integral brick end stack to left. Right
return has four C20 casements in C19 openings to each floor, those to
ground floor pointed. Blind mock gun-loop to centre on first floor
with similar gun-loop to end wall. Brick ridge stack to centre and
another similar stack behind ridge to right. Two blind rectangular
openings on ground floor to end wall. C19 addition in angle to rear
has early C19 vertical posts with light horizontal timbers and red brick
infill to first floor but gable end has been clad or rebuilt in late
C19 red brick. Two sections of wall attached to front and rear: roughly
coursed sandstone rubble and coursed blocks with coping. Both walls
terminate in rectangular piers, section to front also having mock arrow-
loops and rectangular turret projecting to centre.
