Stable block and coach house, now house. Circa 1749, restored in the late
C20. Red brick with hipped plain tile roof. 2 storeys and attic. Plinth,
plat band (with raised top course) , C20 boxed eaves, and integral brick end
stacks. South-east front: 3:1:3 bays; segmental headed 2-light wooden
casements (replaced in C20), cross windows to ground floor. Doorway in
second bay from right. Pair of elliptical-arched coach-house doorways to
left, which each have a pair of large boarded doors with strap hinges.
Central gabled break with oculus in apex and elliptical-arched carriageway
with raised brick keystone. Pair of cast-iron gates with spearhead railings
and red sandstone hinge blocks. Evidence of former stone shield on wall
above arch (see disturbed brickwork). Forecourt walls flanking central
entrance. Red brick with stone coping. Each wall turns through 90 with
canted corners,to form enclosures to left and right. Square piers with
pyramidal caps, those flanking entrance with C18 wrought-iron lamp standards.
Pair of boarded gates to left, with flanking gate piers. Rear: 3:1:3
bays; segmental-headed 2-light wooden casements (replaced in C20), cross
windows to ground floor. Boarded doors in second and sixth bays with 2-part
segmental-headed overlights. Central gabled break with oculus in apex
and elliptical-arched carriageway with raised brick keystone. This was
formerly the stable block and coach house to The Old Rectory (q.v.). Both
the house and stable block stand within a moated site.
