Barton's Bridge

II

Bridge. Dated 1819, probably by Thomas Telford. Regularly coursed and dressed sandstone blocks. Single tall round-headed arch supported on high battered abutments. Rusticated voussoirs struck through to soffit; flat string-course and coped parapet (formerly with iron railings) terminating in rectangular corner piers. Datestone not noted at time of resurvey (February 1987). Spans the Shell Brook, which here forms the boundary with Wales.
