Farmhouse, now disused. Mainly late C17 but possibly incorporating parts
of an earlier building; later additions and alterations. Red brick
(random and English garden wall bonds) and timber framed with red brick
infill to gabled range to rear; slate roofs. Basic L-plan with lower
range to rear on left and outbuilding attached to left. 2 storeys and
attic. Late C18 or early C19 segmental-headed 3-light casements
directly below eaves to left and right with similar window to ground
floor to left. 6-panel door to right under gabled brick porch with
barleysugar balusters to sides, coped verges and outer Tudor arch.
Gabled dormer in roof slope above right window has C18 casement and
cusped bargeboards with pointed finial. Stepped red brick ridge stack
to left has toothed band to base and 4 attached diagonal shafts. External
end stack to right and pointed finial to left gable end. Short gabled
range to rear on left has queen-strut end truss with V-struts from collar,
projecting single-purlin ends and cusped baseboards. External end stack
with C19 single-storey gabled addition abutting. Remains of label to
centre ground-floor window . Single-storey range to left of main range
(possibly formerly a malthouse) has three C19 casements to front, 2 to
right segmental-headed. Perforated tiles (like those found in malthouses)
reused in external steps to rear. Interior. Inspection not possible at
time of resurvey (March 1987) but noted as having chamfered ceiling beams
and inglenook fireplaces in ground-floor rooms to either side of ridge
stack. Brick cross walls and one collar and tie beam truss to loft in
C19 addition to left of main range.
