Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17 incorporating parts of an earlier
building; later additions and alterations. Red brick with timber framed
gable to left; slate roof. Original house possibly a T-plan with gabled
range projecting to front; 2-storey porch added to right of gabled range
and main range extended to right in late C17 with further extension to right
in mid-to late C19. 2 storeys. Gabled range to left has collar and tie
beam truss, tie beam with billet moulding. C20 boards fixed to beams,
that to collar with date "1561" in C20 lettering. Small C19 casement
above tie beam. Range to right has 2 late C19 casements on each floor,
those to ground floor segmental headed and those to first floor directly
below eaves. Straight joint to right of left windows. C20 ledged door
to right side of 2-storey porch which has crow-step gable to front and
similar door under C19 gabled hood to far left of C19 extension. Prominent
red brick ridge stack with dentilled band to base, paired and rebated
shafts and C19 moulded capping to left and smaller stack to right (formerly
an end stack) at junction between late C17 and C19 parts. Interior.
Chamfered ceiling beams and joists to ground-floor rooms and inglenook
fireplace with wooden lintel to former end stack. Ridge stack has large
inglenook fireplace with elaborately moulded lintel and C17 carving of
serpent (not in situ) affixed to right side and smaller brick fireplace
with chamfered wooden lintel and ogee stops to left side. Cellar below
gabled projection. Main range (excluding C19 addition) in 2 bays with
central collar and tie beam truss and stepping of former end stack exposed
on first floor. Gabled range in 2 short bays with raking struts from tie
beam to principal rafters to centre truss.
