(Hamilton House)



Town House in row. Front c1800. Local stone rendered, ashlar plinth; stone slate roof with plain gables; brick end
chimney stacks. 3 storeys, 3 bays. 12-pane sash windows, in pairs to outer ground and first floors, with no window to
bay 2 first floor: central 6-panel entrance door with semi-circular fanlight, with stone surround of flat Doric
pilasters carrying open pediment hood. In C19 was a branch of Stuckey's Bank. To rear a coach house, now a separate
property, No 6, Higher Backway (qv). (Couzens P, Bruton in Selwood, Abbey Press, Sherborne, 1972.
