Listing Text

Whaddon House

Detached house. C18 possibly with earlier fragments. Local stone rendered, colourwashed; hipped Welsh slate roof;
brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys with attics; 3-bay main facade to West. Sash windows in plain openings, with traceried
glazing bars below and 16-panes above; 6-panel central door in C20 open portico surround; centre bay gabled with
semi-circular attic window set in. On North West corner a one-storey extension with low roof behind parapet, with
mullioned windows under labels. Some C18 features internally including doors and doorcases, but much modified.
Earliest mention of house seemingly 1739, when it belonged to Mr. Francis Hill, but it could be earlier (Couzeis P,
Bruton in Selwood, Abbey Press, Sherborne, 1972).
