1/54 Relett Bale Tomb, in churchyard 6
metres South of chancel, Church
of St. Andrew
Bale Tomb. Early C18, now dismembered with portions laid flat. Ham stone. Two pairs plain bordered-side-panels with
central reeded pilaster; one inscribed "Here---of John-ett who--1722", and the other "Here lyeth the body of Mary wife
of John Relett who died July 7 1719", second panel may be the two end pieces, with double reeded pilasters, one having
an 8-petal rose; the top stones are half cylinders, one with a cartouche and the other with sculls and bones. The
carving not sophisticated: this is a very rare example of the type in South East Somerset.
