Crackmore Lodge with gate piers and gates

Pair of lodges. C19. Ham stone ashlar; hipped Welsh slate roofs; rendered brick chimney stacks. Single storey, 2 bays
each. East elevation have windows with plain mullions and two transomes in architraved surrounds, forming 6 unit
windows with diagonal pattern glazing bars: inner and facing ends angled to points to emphasise gateway, which has
600mm square ashlar piers with heavy moulded caps and cast iron gates with top rail curved to rise to centre, spiked
tops, diamond middle rails and ornate bottom rail. Possibly on the site of an older building; with extensive cellar
linking both buildings; and under drive and gates a subterranean well house with 2 metres diameter well, of uncertain
date. One of the principal entrances to Sherborne Park, Dorset.
