The Britannia Inn

GV II

Inn, Late C18/early C19. Brick, Flemish bond, colourwashed; double Roman clay tile roof between coped gables; brick end
and intermediate chimney stacks. Two storeys, 3 bays. Bays 1 and 2 have flat-roofed angled 2-storey bay windows with
plain sashes; bay 3 has 4-pane sash windows; between each bay a 6-flush-panelled door in beaded architrave with
pedimented hoods on console brackets. Interior not seen. Appears in an engraving of 1860, as the Britannia Inn; the
bays then had small-pane sashes. (McGarvie M, Castle Cary: Avalon Industries, 1980).
