corner of churchvard, former
Church of St Giles


Shrine tomb. Later C19. Ham stone. Square plan; moulded basa; one cusped lancet panel with traceried gable to each
face, with truncated steeplet above: attached is a enclosing low wall, trefoil traceried, with a cross at the east end.
Commemorates J.M Allen and his children. The Revd J.M Allen was curate here 1839-55, as well as headmaster of Ilminster
Grammar School, He was an amateur architect of considerable skill - his other church in this parish, St Mary Maqdalen,
Cricket Malherbie (qv), is probably his best work. (VCH Somerset, Vol IV, l978, p162).
