ST4112 HINTON ST GEORGE CP ABBEY STREET (West side)
7/44 Abbey House
Detached cottage. Circa 1700, modified. Ham stone rubble, ashlar dressings; brick quoins to south gable; thatched roof
between coped gables; brick end chimney stacks. Two storeys, 3-bay symmetrical facade. Hollow-chamfer mullioned windows
in chamfered recesses, first floor 4-light with labels, ground floor 3-light without labels, some iron-framed opening
casements. To lower bay 2 a six-panel door with toplights under timber hood, on wrot-iron backets. Single-storey
extension with half-hipped thatched roof to north gable, loft door in end gable: plain south gable. Interior said to
have a 3-room plan with staircase in entrance hall, with an attic stair in south gable alongside the massive fireplace;
tie-beam roof trusses. (VAG Report, unpublished SRO, 1977).
