3/94 Lower Severalls Farmhouse



Detached farmhouse. C17, modified in C19. Ham stone roughly cut and squared, ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with
coped gable to east, plain gable to west; ashlar and rendered brick chimney stacks. Two storeys with attic, 6 bays
irregular fenestration. Hollow-chamfer mullioned windows without labels, but to bays 2 and 3, and 4, 5 and 6 a string
mould between floors. Windows of 3 lights first floor, mostly rectangular leaded, that to bay 3 being a 1 + 1 + 1 oriel
light and stepped stone roof. To ground floor, 4-light windows bays 2 and 5, single-light bays 3 and 6, and 3-light bay
4 left. French doors to bay 1, and bays 3 and 4 a chamfered cambered-arched doorway without label. Some rebuilding to
bay 1, which may be an addition. Attic window of 2 lights in east gable. Small lean-to below, which, it is reported,
masks signs of a former external bread oven. Interior not seen, but reported is a cross-passage plan, with stud and
plank partitions; plain hall fireplace, with adjoining spiral stair; some chamfered beams with stops a transition
between step-and-runout and scroll; indications of a bacon curing chamber; roof of earlier collar-beam trusses. (VAG
