south-west of Clapton Mill

Milestone. Cl9. Portland stone pillar with cast iron plaque. Pillar about 450mm wide x 110mm thick, tapering x 950mm
high with segmental curved top; plaque about 380mm x 135mm, with 140mm diameter semi-circles at top and bottom: reads
'13/LYME/CREWKERNE/3'. Part of the acknowledged Wells to Dorchester route (Ogilby 1675), the road was turnpiked in 1765
by the Crewkerne Trust under their first Act: (Bentley J.B. and Murless B.J, Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985).
