ASHINGTON

4/5 Middle Farmhouse, with the
attached Dairy Cottage
-

- II

Farmhouse. Probably late C17. Cob, now faced with brick; double Roman
clay tile roof with timber vergepieces; brick chimney stacks. 2-storeys,
4-bays. Panelled reveals to entrance in bay 3 with C19 pattern 6 panel
door, 4 panels glazed, 2-garage doors at extreme left: casement windows
with exposed timber lintols, those to first floor of early date. Inside
a variety of boarded and 2-panel doors; cambered chamfered beams; collar
trussed tie beam roof with no ridgepiece - probably thatched originally.
The Dairy Cottage to rear probably all of C20, but it absorbs some of
the first floor rooms of Middle Farmhouse and is not therefore
structurally separate.
