The Clarke Chest Tomb, 14 metres
South of the South door to the
- chancel, Church of Saint James
Chest tomb. Late C18. Ham stone ashlar, carved: moulded base, one
heavily fielded panel to each side and flank, panelled pilasters to
flanks only, heavily moulded hipped top. Commemorates members of the
Clarke family including Charles Holliar Clarke, died 1779 - much of the
inscriptions now worn away. One of a good group of five tombs.
