-

GV II

Semi-detached farm cottages. Circa 1861. Local lias stone carefully cut,
squared and coursed, with Ham stone dressings; plain clay tile roof with
bonds of ornamental tiles and ornamental ridges, plain bargeboards and
wood finials to verges; central brick chimney stack. 2-storeys, 2-bay
central projection with side porches. Outer boarded doors in arched
timber and tiled roof porches; plain chamfer mullioned windows with
rectangular leaded lights and no labels, 3-light below and 2-light
above, under double gables. Extensions to rear, and also 2 or 3 metres
behind matching single storey outhouses with WCs etc, with ornamental
tile ridge to small pitched roof. These appear architect designed - Sir
Arthur Blomfield restored Hinton Farm House (qv) opposite in matching
style: the similar brick cottages in the parish could be copies of this
pair. Two "copies" in brick exist on the Goodford estate within this
parish, "Amhurst" (qv) and pair of cottages 20 metres West of Old Sock
Cottage (qv).
