Manor House. Mostly C17 but with earlier fragments. Local stone cut and
squared, random coursed, with Ham stone dressings; Bridgwater patent,
triple angle, clay tiles between coped gables; 2-stone chimney stacks
and one of brick. Originally an "L"-plan; main South elevation has
2-stories of 3-bays, with left hand projecting wing. Central coped
gabled porch, with finial, with solid sides and cambered arch doorway;
windows ovolo-mould mullioned with rectangular leaded lights and label
moulds, 4-light to ground floor and 3-light above; 2-wrought iron
casement stays survive. The gable of the projection has a 4-light hollow
chamfered window to ground floor, above a matching 3-light with label
set under a triangular relieving arch. In the East wall of the
projection a plain doorway with cambered arch. To the rear an early
stone chimney stack and several mullioned windows, as well as a C20 rear
wing and 2-lean-to extensions. The interior is said to contain jointed
cruck roof trusses, some C17 fireplaces, chamfered beams and a moulded
stud and panel cross-passage screen. Owned by Bishopric of Winchester
from the mid C11 into the C19, and used as a resting place for the
