Description

ST49NW SOMERTON CP COW SQUARE (North side)

9/147 The Railings, gate and gate piers
about 9 metres south of
Donisthorpe

17.4.59

GV II*

Railings, gate and gate piers. Probably C18. Wrought iron, on stone plinths now almost buried. Plain waisted and
collared spikes, with leaf curls to bases to exclude small animals; thick braced standards with urn finials: gate piers
have scroll open- work to all four facets, with repousse work tops; ornate gate to match. A rare survival of such
quality C18 ironwork in a small town location (in poor condition at time of survey, June 1984).
