Milestone. Probably early C19. Doulting stone pillar with cast iron plaque.
Stone about 400 mm x 50 mm thick x 1.2 metres high, roughly rounded top:
cast iron plaque 375 mm wide x 430 mm high, with shouldered semi-circular
top and double ogee base, reading "Wincanton (on curve)/4/Ilchester/9".
This road turnpiked in 1756 and maintained by the Wincanton Trust.
