The east curtain wall with
turrets, Compton Castle
(formerly listed is forecourt
Feature walling with turrets enclosing garden. Circa 1820, by Finden of Bath. Ham stone cut and squared, with ashlar
dressings. Semi-circular on plan, with six turrets occuring at intervals, some square on plan, some circular, all with
castellated parapets; curtain wall averages 3 m high on east face, but as a retaining wall little visible on west side.
Important feature of this large landscaped estate, and an essential part of the setting of Compton Castle (qv).
