COMPTON PAUNCEFOOT CP
The summerhouse, about 10 m
south-west of Compton Castle
Summerhouse. Probably c1820, by Finden of Bath, but may have early C20 alterations. Ham stone; flat roof hidden by
plain parapets. Two storeys, 5-bay east elevation. Plinth, string course, parapet; outer bays are semi-circular side
projections with small single light window under square label below; bays 2 and 4 have window in semi-circular arched
recess below and single light window with label above; centre bay has triple arched recess below and 5-light mullioned
and transomed window above. Interior not seen. Part of the large landscaped estate of Compton Castle (qv), and an
important element in the setting of that building.
