3/94 Ilford Bridge


Road bridge over stream, the centre in a series of 3. Probably circa 1800, but widened 1912/13. Ham stone cut and
squared; semi-circular arch on south side, but flat on north side where widened; plain level parapet with shaped coping
stones; no features at east end, but continued westwards towards Ilton no.1 Bridge (q.v.), with walls to same height
but with flaunching, not coping stones. Bridge maintained by the Ilminster Trust, by whom this Curry Rivel to Chard
road, via Ilminster, was turnpiked in 1759. (Bentley JB and Murles BJ, Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985).
