Milestone at NGR ST 3955 1229

Milestone. Early C19. Ham stone pillar, cast iron plaques. Pillar triangular
on plan, with 500mm wide principal faces, 300mm wide at back, with rounded
top, in all about 850mm high; plaques full width of pillar and l00 deep,
with rounded drops; east side reads "ILMINSTER/3" and west "CREWKERNE/4".
This road was turnpiked in 1759, and maintained by the Ilminster Trust (1759-1879). (Bentley JB and Murless BJ, Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985).
