GV II

Cottage. C16, partly demolished, enlarged late C20. Colour washed rubble, roughcast gabled porch room carried on 2
circular and one square pier, thatched roofs, brick stack right gable end. Plan: probably 3 cell and cross passage
originally, of which 2 cells remain to right of C20 through passage to C20 wing, porch room of uncertain date. One and
a half storeys, 1:2 bays; porch left 2-light casement, right two early C19 leaded iron casement dormers, groundfloor
one 3-light and two 2-light casements right of 4 panel door approached by flight of 2 steps. Interior: groundfloor 2
rooms steeply chamfered beams, chamfered lintel to gable end fireplace with peaked doorframe left, originally stairs,
fireplace against cross passage wall, also chamfered lintel, upper storey not viewed. The gabled porch room probably
not contemporary with house but a later, perhaps even early C20 addition. Nevertheless, set high on a steep bank
overlooking the road this is one of the most picturesque cottages in the village. (Photograph in NMR).
