The Almonry (formerly listed as Sydenham Alms Houses)

Almshouses, now private dwelling. Early C16, converted mid C20 to private dwelling. Red sandstone random rubble,
quoins, coped verges, asbestos slate roof, brick stacks gable ends and pair flanking central 2 bays. Plan: originally 6
single cell units. Single storey with inserted attic, 6 bays; 2 inserted C20 3-light casement dormers in central 2
bays, groundfloor 2-light hollow chamfered stone mullioned windows with C20 leading, each set to left of Tudor arched
opening, 4 to left blocked, main entrance now second bay right, ribbed and studded plank door with stable door end bay
right. Interior not viewed. These almshouses were erected by the Sydenhams of Combe Sydenham (qv) and ceased to be
almshouses when the estate was sold in 1896. (Photograph in NMR).
