ST0937 STOGUMBER CP HIGH STREET (North side)
11/174 Swan House and mounting block
attached on West elevation
House. C16-17, enlarged subsequently and extensively altered mid C20. Red sandstone random rubble, thatched roof, brick
stack left gable end and right of cross passage. Plan: internally much altered, probably 2 cell and cross passage
originally with 2 gabled wings added at rear. One and a half storeys, 4 bays; 3 late C17-early C18 3-light mullioned
and transomed wooden leaded windows with small 2-light casement below eaves second bay left, groundfloor C20 windows
one left and 2 right of recessed entrance with small stairlight end bay left. Recessed porch under wooden lintel
supported by 2 steel columns, entrance left through plank door. Right return red sandstone random rubble mounting
block, projection to chimney breast and early C19 leaded iron casement in rear wing. Interior: extensively altered mid
C20 with the insertion of carved woodwork and extra staircase to form 2 separate dwelling units. Forms important
townscape feature at the junction of High Street, Vellow Road and Brook Street. (Photograph in NMR).
