Dog Pound at entrance to Alfoxton Park

Dog pound. C16-C17. Red sandstone random rubble. Square in plan on sloping site, West wall about 3 metres high, East
wall about 1.5 metres. Arched head on centre of facade carries crest of St. Albyn family, probably C19, small slit
below giving view of interior of pound, buttressed corners, entrance at rear through gap in wall. 1983 plaque added
commemorating the gift of this dog pound to the village of Holford by the descendents of the St. Albyn family, owners
of Alfoxton Park (qv) for many years. Listed primarily for historic interest.
