Farmhouse. Early C17 enlargement of C15 - C16 building, externally altered late C19. Roughcast over random rubble,
pantiled roof, decorative ridge tiles, brick stacks gable ends and centre right. Open hall derrivative probably, now 3
cell and cross passage, outshot at rear. One and a half storeys, 5 bays; all windows late C19, first floor 2-light
casements in gabled dormers grouped 3 left, 2 right, groundfloor 3-light casements in outer bays and one in centre with
C19 plank doors between, gabled, tiled porch hoods, decorative ridge tiles, decorative wood brackets. Interior: outer
room left 4 panel compartment ceiling, plasterwork motifs in panels, plasterwork overmantel inscribed IPA 1622 and
early C17 arcaded panelling with vineleaf sections reassembled from various sources. First floor another 4 panelled
compartment ceiling with 2 pairs of plasterwork motifs, cornice frieze, and overmantel depicting the sacrifice of Isaac
between supports with inscription IP 1641 AP. In late C16 this was known as the Constable's House because it belonged
to the constable of Stowey Castle, (VAG Report, unpublished SRo, September 1981 VCH Somerset, Vol,5 forthcoming.
