headstone, in churchyard, about
10 metres south-east of chancel,
Church of St John the Baptist

Three headstones. Late C17-early c18. Doulting stone. About 500mm above ground. Pair similar but not
identical with moulded pilasters carrying cambered rope frieze surmounted by scull flanked with flowers;
one dated 1697, the other 1695 R E(scott), S E(scott). Third headstone square headed, 540mm above ground,
moulded surround with semi-circular headed centrepiece, inscription not legible. Probably to another
member of the Escott family others of whom are interred in the adjoining Richard Escott chest tomb (qv).
