1811-13. 3 storeyed terrace; part of the new street cut through from the
Market Place. 3 storeys, some with attic; mostly 2 bays. Painted ashlar
fronts with dividing pier strips, plat bands and moulded strings over 1st
floors. Thin moulded astragel cornice and parapet, ramped down steep slope. Glazing bar sash windows; No 3 in arched surrounds with moulded string at
impost level (as also home forming returned elevation of No 8 (qv)). No 3
also has an early C20 shop-front and an arched door to right with
radiating and wreathed fanlight. It has a chamfered corner with curved
panel and a 1 bay return to Eagle Lane. No 4 has double shop front,
possibly original, with fascia on detached fluted Ionic coluzns. Arched
doorway with keystone between Nos 6 and 7, No 8 has a projecting wrought
and cast iron sign and a 1 bay return to churchyard with window on ground
floor. Splayed angle with recess on upper floor containing heraldic
achievement of Thynne Family (Marquesses of Bath). No 8 is a 2 bay
extension, formerly a separate house facing churchyard; with 6 panel door
- broken-urn-and-wreath-type knocker. 1st floor windows in arched
surrounds, framing pilaster strips.
