1890s. Builder Joseph Bird to designs of Anderson and Halliday. Not the
Renaissance Palace for the Poor it was intended to be. (Designed for the offices
of the Poor Law Union).
Local rubble with Bath stone features. Tiled roofs. Ashlar chimneys upper parts
with chamfered corners lower parts with gablets above base. 2 storeys, 3-1-2-1
bays. Central large projecting gable with pointed and traceried 1st floor window
and 3 bay stilted arcade on ground floor. Flanking gables above 1st floor ½
dormers with pointed and traceried windows. Moulded band above ground floor sub-
divided and traceried windows. Hipped gabled cross-wing to right with square bay
on ground floor (No 1).
