Group of 2 storey cottages incorporating the remains of medieval and later fabric,
said to represent the Twynhoe family manor. Now much altered but several features
survive. No 59 and 61 are rendered rubble with pantile roofs, one former. 4 windows
irregularly positioned, mostly wooden casements. Front of No 61 shows a blocked 2-
light medieval window with moulded stone mullion and trefoiled heads to lights,
smaller but similar 2-light window to rear with arched heads and panelled spandrels.
2-light stone mullioned window with flat head to ground floor. Nos 63 to 67 are
rubble with block dressings and slate roofs, mid-late C19 with 4 sash windows and
canted stone bays to ground floor. No 69 has a lower 1½ storey extension projecting to
right with steps from road up to door in gable-end. Nos 55 and 57 form a rear wing
to Nos 59 and 61: 2½ storeys, altered C17 with older fabric, rubble with pantile roof.
Gable to left with 2-light attic window (oak mullion, chamfered surround). Dormer to
right. 2 windows modern casements. Said to contain medieval features. Listed for
both historical and architectural interest. Interior of Nos 59 and 61: 2 winder
staircases inserted. 2 large fireplaces No 59 with wood lintel and moulded stone
sides. Stop chamfered surround to communicating door between Nos 59 and 61 on ground
floor.
