ST6347 ASHWICK CP
House. 1874 by T.L. Banks for Fredrick Spencer of Oakhill Brewery. Ground floor rubble, upper floors have planted frame
with brick nogging to corner part, and incised render to upper part; tiled roofs with ashlar stacks, modillion
cornices. Domestic Revival with jettied gables; asymmetrical. 2-storeys and attics. Irregular fenestration roughtly
3:1:2:2:1 windows on first floor, mostly casements with coloured glass transom lights. Salient features are oriel gable
to left, 2-irregular gables in centre with bargeboards, and corner turret to right. Doorway off-centre right with
stilted arch and enriched mouldings. Large 3-light stair windows to left of centre with c1300-style tracery in head.
Interior retains virtually complete, doors, chimney pieces, mouldings etc. of the period. Pondsmead together with its
summerhouse, lake side features and lodge is an important C19 pleasance.
