Workhouse, now hospital. Dated 1848, outer wings slightly later. Coursed rubble, dressed quoins, slate roof, wide
bracketed eaves. Austere classical proportions, "H" shaped on plan. 3-storeys, 11-bays, 3:1:3:1:3, centre 5-bays
stepped forward, all having sash windows with glazing bars in moulded stone architraves. Central square head doorway,
moulded surround, triangular pediment on shaped stone brackets, double doors of 3-panels each. Second and tenth ground
floor windows also have triangular pediments. String course below first and second floor windows. Centre 3-bays gabled
with stone plaque:- "Shepton Mallet 1848". 2-bay wing at each side at right angles to facade. Similar fenestration,
2-semi-circular arches at ground floor on gable ends. Lodge at entrance to Old Wells Road (qv).
