4/200 Gloucester Lodge



Lodge and gateway. Early C19. Random rubble and dressed stone, slate roofs. An embattled mock military gateway incorporating a lodge, semi-circular curtain walls enclosing its forecourt terminating in gate piers at the roadside in a conforming style. Central gateway with a broad depressed arch, flanked by octagonal towers; to each side of these window openings of one and 2 bays to left and right respectively on 2 floors; 2-light stone-mullioned windows with
stopped labels, glazing bar casement to each light. To left embattled 3 storey tower with a single light opening to each floor, leaded lights. Inside the central archway plaster vaulting in imitation of stone, 3-bay arcade to each
side, each arch with a pointed head, 4 heraldic shields set above. Paired wooden latticework gates to central gateway in the style of a portcullis; heraldic achievements set over the arch and a whimsical datestone:- "1485". Embattled
curtain walls with 2 small circular towers to each side enclosing wide forecourt area; machicolated towers at roadside forming "giant" gate piers. Further sections of rubble wall extending 5 metres to south and 33 metres to North.
