11/231 The Cottage
Detached house. Circa 1850. Coursed rubble Doulting stone with ashlar quoins.
3 courses of plain clay tiles alternating with 2 courses of fish tail tiles
to gable roofs with projecting purlins boarded soffits and verge boards,
and stone ridge tiles. Right hand end chimney stack with pair of octagonal
flues, linked at top by a common cap. 2-storey, 4-window front with window 3
in projecting gable roofed, 2-storey porch with entrance. Vertical boarded
and lapped door in chamfered stone frame with flat pointed arch. 2- and 3-
light, 6- and 8-pane moulded stone mullion windows with stopped dripmoulds
over ground floor windows. To the left; a lower 2-storey range projects
forward to meet stepped, tile coped screen wall to roofed staircase.
Bracketed chimney breast, cantilevered, tile hung corner bay with 3-light casement window. 4-light chamfered stone mullion window to first floor with weathered string over.
