Country house for Hood family. Mid/late C18, remodelled mid/late C19. Coursed and squared rubble, freestone dressings,
moulded cornice, parapet with coping, coped verges, slate roof, ashlar and brick stacks. Symmetrical frontage. Two
storeys, 1:5:1 bay; bay to each side set back slightly and of a lower height with a hipped roof; centre 5 bays with
12-pane sash windows to first floor, emphasised keystones; taller sash windows to ground floor, no glazing bars;
windows virtually flush mounted. Wings with 12-pane sash windows to first floor, large 12-pane sash window to right of
ground floor; French windows to left of ground floor. Central door opening, 6-panelled door, top 2 panels glazed,
emphasised triple keystone. Cast-iron verandah on ornamental "trellis" supports across ground floor. Service wing of a
single-storey and attic set back to left; 2 storey service wing set back to right, arcaded wooden bellcote to roof,
domed lead capping, cresting. Interior predominantly with mid/late C19 features, though some C18 work also present; all
principal ground floor rooms with good fireplaces; room to left of hall with wainscot panelling; some ornamental
cupboards with glazed doors. Home of Viscount Samuel Hood (1724-1816).
