Farmhouse, now divided into 2 houses. C16, C17, some C19 and C20 alterations, particularly to the exterior. Roughcast,
slate roofs, coped verges, brick stacks. Cross passage plan; later wing to each side of frontage which is at
right-angles to St Mary's Street, E-shaped facade with a central porch and front facing gables. Two storeys and attics,
very irregular fenestration, many window openings appear blocked, predominantly 3-light casements with glazing bars.
Benched porch to left of 2 storeys, studded plank inner door with a later glazed panel. Further semi-circular head door
opening to right wing, panelled and glazed door, fanlight with radiating glazing bars, gabled hood on brackets.
Pent-roofed stair-turret to right return. Left return facing St Mary's Street of 2 bays, two, 3 and 5-light casements;
door opening plank door, slated pentice on 2 slender wooden posts. Interior of Stowey House with 2 C17 ornamental
plaster ceilings, thin ribs; one with curved patterns and bosses; the other with squares and diamonds; fireplace with a
broad chamfered wooden bressumer; C17 staircase with turned balusters and moulded hand rail, the attic flight with
splat balusters; two chamfered and stopped door frames to first floor. Wing to rear, known as No 2 Stowey Cottages, not
of special interest.
