Holy Well

Well and housing. Medieval origin, stone plaque to North gable inscribed:- "HOLY WELL,
RESTORED BY JOHN B HAMNELL 1857". Housing of red sandstone rubble, open to South gable,
tile roof with fish-tail bands, large cruciform stone finial to North gable. Excavated
floor level reached by a rubble step, quarry-tiled floor, central circular well with
rubble lining, false bottom formed by a stone slab pierced with small holes to allow the
water to flow thorough it, C20 metal cover over the well; semi-circular rubble bench with
a quarry-tiled capping to North Side. The well stands over a spring.
