Former farmhouse, now house. Late C16 or early C17, much modified and extended in
late C18 or early C19. Rough coursed and squared lias to early wing and squared
coursed lias to later wing, 2 or 3-room plan, the stair case possibly to right of
fire-place in room to right, but now a straight star to divided landing, opposite
porch, a late wing added at right angles, right. Early block has swept down roof over
former dairy, back right. Two storeys, entrance front has at ground floor three
3-light casements with glazing bars, and small internal wood mullions; at first floor
a 16-pane sash and three 2-light casements with glazing bars. Off-centre left a
gabled glazed porch over a C19 panelled door, 6 glazed and 3 solid panels. Return
wing has a part-glazed door and a 9-pane sash below 9-pane sash; eaves and ceiling
heights greater than in early block. Three brick gable stacks. Left, or south gable
has two added raking buttresses and a single deep-set. casement. Attached is a later
C19 parallel wing with gable. Outer gable to return wing has small casement at upper
level. Back has swept-down section and a small conservatory. To the north a
2-storey stable has gabled ends; north front has 2-light mullioned opening and wide
plank door, front gable, with plank door, rear gable heavily overgrown (December
1988). This is linked to house by a high rubble wall covering a former stone-paved
yard, now covered by lean-to roof.

Interior: entry hall has straight stick stair to divided flight at top landing. Left
parlour has remains of 4-compartment ceiling with large, deep-chamfered beams, c350mm
wide, to run out stops; the middle transverse beam is much smaller, cl5Omm wide, but
also deep chamfer, and the right-hand 2 compartments have been greatly curtailed by
insertion of the later stair hall. The compartments occupy only about two thirds of
the room, which may have been extended later. No fireplaces of interest. At the
upper floor, to right of the chimney breast in the north room, at the junction with
later wing, a curved wall suggests position for original staircase. Roof space not
inspected but 2 pairs of heavy principals in north end, and parts of similar
principals near stair-head. A curved principal, now papered over shows probable
position of earlier roof, near staircase end.

A modest-looking house, but enclosing interesting early remains. In the early C20
there was a bakery on the site.
