Country villa. Circa 1840 for Colthurst family. Rubble core, brick dressings; main block faced
in Flemish bond Bridgwater brick with emphasised rusticated quoins, projecting first floor band,
wide bracketed eaves, hipped double Roman tile roofs, brick stacks, some in groups. Entrance
frontage to main block of 1:1 bays; to left blank with false window on first floor, to right pro-
jecting, 16-pane sash window on first floor, 24-pane triple-hing sash window to ground floor;
stepped voussoirs. Door opening to left, panelled and glazed door, fan-light, verandah, double
Roman tile roof on chamfered wooden piers, continues to left on garden front. Service wing to
right of 4:1 bays, plain but conforming style. Interior with high quality interior features,
particularly fireplaces and staircase. Colthurst family were major producers of tiles and bricks in
Bridgwater in the C19 and early C20.
