Folly tower. Early C19 incorporating re-used C15 features; by William Stradling.
Coursed and squared rubble, ashlar, freestone dressings, roof missing. Gothick
incorporating Perpendicular features; a romantic tower, square on plan on a
mock-moated site. Two stages, diagonal buttresses with offsets to entrance
front, pinnacles. Central semi-circular head door opening in moulded and shafted
surround, label, carved spandrels, above a mullioned and transomed window, much
decayed, lights remaining are cusped with blank heads, carved spandrels. Smaller
similar windows to north and south sides, tracery missing. Moulded stone cornice
around top, corbel carved as an angel at one corner. Interior with stone
staircase; remains of a former stone vault supporting first floor. Structure
in poor condition at time of re-survey (September 1985).
