1.
5365 MANTLE STREET
(North Side)
No 1 (Old Court)
ST 1320 1/39 25.1.51.
II* GV
2.
Set back from the road. C16 seat of the Pophams stood here, but was much damaged
in the Civil War. Along the back of the house are 3 rooms with coved ceilings,
evidently part of an ancient structure, also 3 old stone chimneys. Front of
house was added early C19. This is 2 storey 4 window roughcast, the centre being
higher and having modillion cornice to parapet. Glass conservatory across front
with Gothic glazing bars. Vases at corners. Roof has wrought iron bell turret.
Internally one of the older rooms has interesting early C19 plasterwork and Gothic
woodwork detail.

No 1; gatepiers gates and railings at No 1; former coach house and garden wall
at No 1 and No 3 form a group with No 41 Fore Street.
